JONESBORO, Ark. - The UT Arlington women's basketball team picked up the program's 700th victory with a 60-40 rout of Arkansas State on Friday night (Feb. 26) at First National Bank Arena. The Lady Mavs are now 700-695 all-time.
With the win, UTA moves to 12-6 overall and 10-4 in Sun Belt play, while the Red Wolves fall to 9-10 on the season and 4-9 in league action. The Lady Mavs' win also secures a First Round bye and the No. 2 seed (West) in the 2021 Sun Belt Tournament (March 5-8; Pensacola, Fla.). UTA will open conference tournament play in the Quarterfinal Round on Saturday, March 6 at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of No. 3 (East)/No. 6 (West).
Camryn Hawkins led the Lady Mavericks with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-10 from three-point range and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. The Albuquerque, N.M. native, also added four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Shyia Smith added 11 points and four boards, while
Bre Wickware chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
Terryn Milton scored seven points and dished out a game-high four assists and
Barbara Benson registered five points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
Jada Stinson, one of three A-State players to score in double figures, finished with 13 points to lead the Red Wolves.
UTA's defense forced the home team into 24 turnovers and limited the A-State to just 30 percent (15-of-50) shooting from the floor and 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from behind the arc.
The two squads return to the court tomorrow afternoon for the regular season finale. Tip-off  is slated for 4:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
