Mavs Fall to Tarleton in Series Finale

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball team fell to Tarleton State in straight sets on Saturday, 22-25, 22-25, 18-25. The loss drops UTA to 13-9 overall, while the Texans improve to 2-6.
 
Brooke Townsend finished with her sixth double-double of the season (14 kills, 11 digs). Alli Wells led the Mavs with 15 digs, while Mollie Blank finished with a match-high 28 assists. As a team, UTA held a .227 attack percentage.  The Mavs also finished with seven service aces, with three coming from Wells.

SET 1 | UTA 22, TSU 25 | TSU LEADS 1-0
The Mavs jumped out to an early 9-5 lead that was capped off with a kill from Brianna Ford.  The Texans slowly fought back into the set until they tied the match at 12. The two teams traded points until the Texans took a two-point advantage at the 21-19 mark. The Mavericks used a 3-0 run and appeared to capture the momentum, but a timely timeout by the Texans turned the tide as Tarleton finished the set on a 4-0 run to take set one.

SET 2 | UTA 22, TSU 25 | TSU LEADS 2-0
Tarleton continued their momentum into the second set, taking an early 6-1 lead over the Mavericks. The Mavericks were able to cut into the deficit following three-straight kills from Brooke Townsend to put the score at 11-9. After the Texans opened up their lead to four at 23-19, the Mavericks scored three-straight to force a late time-out by the Tarleton. Back-to-back points from the Texans gave Tarleton the set win.
 
SET 3 | UTA 18, TSU 25 | TSU WINS 3-0
Tarleton jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the Mavericks quickly evened it up at four a piece with the third service ace of the match from Alli Wells. UTA was unable to take the lead as the Texans slowly built their lead up to a match high seven points at 19-12.  The deficit would stay at seven as the Texans finished the set to win the match.

UP NEXT
UTA will prepare for a mid-week match against North Texas next Thursday (Feb. 11) at 6 p.m. in Denton.
