Softball Suffers Tough Loss to No. 1 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Oklahoma – The UT Arlington softball team suffered a tough defeat at No. 1 Oklahoma at Marita Hynes Field Wednesday night, 14-0, after five innings.

After the first two innings, the Sooners offense plated 14 runs across to take an early lead. UTA recorded four hits in the game from senior Aileen Garcia, Sophie Wideman, Reagan Hukill and Madison Miller. The Mavericks were unable to get any runs on the board falling 14-0 dropping their overall record to 3-11 this season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Aileen Garcia, Sophie Wideman and Reagan Hukill notched three of the four hits in the contest. Garcia reached base twice including a walk while senior Madison Miller delivered with a pinch-hit single to left field.

Junior Allie Gardiner got the start on the mound for the Mavericks and threw one inning while facing nine batters. The California native allowed six runs off five hits. Sophomore Kenedy Hines made an appearance in the second inning to face 11 batters before being replaced by Laura Henriksen.

The junior went on the throw two innings and allowed one hit while recording one strikeout. Henriksen kept the Sooners off the board for the rest of her time in the circle but UTA was unable to get any runs on the board leaving Gardiner with the loss.

PLAY BY PLAY
  • Oklahoma scored 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning off a pair of singles and two 2-run homeruns.
  • A pair of singles from Aileen Garcia and Reagan Hukill were the first hits of the game but UTA was unable to plate any across.
  • Three home runs helped extend the Sooners lead to 14-0 in the second inning.
  • Aileen Garcia drew a 2-out walk before Sophie Wideman notched a base hit to right field. UTA stranded two runners on heading into the bottom of the fourth inning down 14-0.
  • In the fifth inning, senior Madison Miller was put in to pinch-hit and delivered with a hard shot to left field for a single.
  • The Mavericks couldn't put any across suffering a 14-0 loss to No. 1 Oklahoma in five innings.

The Mavericks will open conference competition at home for its first series against Troy Saturday (Mar. 13) beginning with a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
