DALLAS, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season on Thursday evening, falling to SMU in Dallas 4-2. The Mavericks fall to 7-1 on the season with the loss.
The evening started off on the right foot, taking the doubles points.
Polina Akimova and
Nanaka Takeuchi fell on court one 6-2, but
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons even the points back up with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Momoka Horiguchi and
Bruna Casasampere brought the point home with a hard-fought 7-5 win at No. 3.
The Mustangs quickly evened up the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court two in singles play before taking a 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court six.
SMU would capture their third point of the match by taking No. 4 6-4, 6-2.
Polina Akimova put the Mavericks back on track with a 6-2, 6-4 win from her No. 3 position, but that would be the last point the Mavericks would get.
Momoka Horiguchi was unable to complete a comeback on court one. After dropping the first set 6-1, she battled back to take set two 6-4. SMU would take the final set 6-3 to capture the win.
