ARLINGTON, Texas – Despite a career-day from
Kody Bullard, the UT Arlington baseball team (5-8) couldn't pick up a win over Lamar (6-1), getting shut out for a second straight game, 2-0. It marks the first time since 2016 that the Mavericks have been shut out in back-to-back games.
Kody Bullard (L, 2-2) put on a show for Maverick fans from the mound, striking out a career-high 10 batters in 7.0 innings pitched. Bullard walked just one batter, gave up three hits and allowed only one earned run.
Tanner King came on in relief for Bullard, continuing the dominance on the mound. In just 2.0 innings, King tied his career-high in strikeouts with four.
The Mavericks finished with just four hits on the day.
Boone Montgomery,
Wyatt Divis,
Josh Minjarez and
Tommy Williams each finished with a hit.
Tyler Rice also reached base from a walk.
UTA continued to struggle with runners on base, going 0-for-13 at the plate on Friday night. With runners in scoring position, the Mavericks went 0-for-9.
The Cardinals scored their first run in the top of the third inning. Bullard's lone walk of the day would end up advancing to third from a pickoff error by
Sam Gotlieb. Two batters later, a sacrifice fly brought the run home.
The next inning, Lamar scored their only other run of the day. A double to left field gave the Cardinals a runner in scoring position before a deep single to right field brought the run home to make it 2-0.
UTA will look to get their offense back on track tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark when they take on Lamar for the third game of the series.
