ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's and women's tennis teams will return to the UTA Tennis Center this Saturday (March 13). The women's team will begin the day at 10 am with a match against Sun Belt foe, Louisiana and the men's team will follow with a match against Lamar at 2 pm.
The women are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to SMU 4-2 on Friday in Dallas. Despite the loss, the Mavericks are putting up great records on the season. In singles play, there is not a single Maverick that has a record below .500 on the season.
Carla Pons leads all Mavs with 12 wins.
The Mavericks are faring well in doubles play as well, winning over 75 percent of their matches.
Almudena Boza is a perfect 6-0 on the season, including a unblemished 5-0 record with partner
Carla Pons in the No. 3 position.
Momoka Horiguchi is 6-1 and holds a 3-0 record with
Lucia Natal on court two.
The men's team are coming off their first win in over a month in a 7-0 sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Wednesday at the UTA Tennis Center.
UTA has faced tough competition this season, including three ranked opponents. Because of that competition, it will prepare them for their upcoming slate over the final month of the season.
Alan Sau Franco and
Daichi Akiyoshi lead the Mavs with seven wins on the season.
Angel Diaz won his first match of the season on Wednesday.
In doubles competition,
Angel Diaz and
Miguel Cabrera lead the Mavericks with a 4-2 record.
Eduard Simo and
Solano Caffarena are second on the team with three doubles wins.
