ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team bounced back from a doubles point loss to win their third straight Sun Belt Conference match, 5-2, over UL-Monroe on Tuesday morning. The Mavericks improve to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Mavericks fell in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to start the day to lose the doubles point.
Nanaka Takeuchi and
Polina Akimova lost 6-2 on court one, while
Momoka Horiguchi and
Bruna Casasampere lost 6-4 on court two.
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons were winning 5-2 when their match was called.
Carla Pons went straight to business in singles play, winning No. 3 6-0, 6-4 to even the match at one point each.
Almudena Boza made it 2-1 for the Mavericks with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 5 singles position.
Liz Chilen won in straight sets to capture the third point of the day for the Mavericks, and just a point a way from a team victory, with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court two.
The final three matches all came down to the tiebreaker set.
Momoka Horiguchi captured the Maverick victory by battling back from a 6-2 first set loss and winning sets two and three by a score of 6-1.
After taking set one 6-1,
Lucia Natal fell 6-4 in set two, but came back with a 6-2 win in the third set to claim the fifth point for the Mavericks.
Nanaka Takeuchi fell in a three sets on court five, 2-6, 7-6, 4-6, but it was too late for the Warhawks and the Mavericks had already captured the match, 5-2.
