ARLINGTON – UT Arlington Athletics and Texas Trust Credit Union are partnering to deliver the university's first esports tournament for everyday players. The Arlington-based credit union is the presenting sponsor of the Maverick Smash Challenge competitive online video gaming event taking place Saturday, Apr. 10.
 
The Maverick Smash Challenge online tournament will feature a series of one-on-one matches playing the popular Super Smash Bros. Ultimate video game. The semifinals and finals of the tournament will be live-streamed on Twitch. As a virtual tournament, competitors will be able to play from the comfort of their own private space.
 
UTA Athletics and Texas Trust joined together to create this tournament to tap into the current enthusiasm surrounding esports. The winner will receive bragging rights as the Maverick Smash Champion and a grand prize of $150, along with the opportunity to win other prizes. Additionally, the top-4 finishers will receive prizes as well.
