ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team fell in the rematch of their only loss on the season on Tuesday afternoon, losing 4-0 to the SMU Mustangs at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks fall to 11-2 overall, while the Mustangs improve to 14-7.
The Mustangs went up early, taking the first doubles match 6-0 over
Carla Pons and
Almudena Boza at No. 3.
Bruna Casasampere and
Momoka Horiguchi made up for the loss, however, evening the doubles point at one match each with a 6-1 victory on court two. The doubles point came down to a hard-fought battle at the No. 1 position, but the Mustangs came out on top 7-5 to secure the point.
The Mustangs took the momentum over to singles play, winning three matches in straight sets to win the match overall.
Bruna Casasampere fell on court six 6-1, 6-2 as the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead.
SMU took a three-point lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five before ending the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over
Liz Chileno on court two.
Polina Akimova and
Carla Pons were both winning at No. 3 and No. 4 when their matches were called.
The Mavericks will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Houston to take on the Rice Owls.
