HOUSTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team suffered their second straight loss on Thursday afternoon, losing to No. 27 Rice 4-0 in Houston. The Mavericks fall to 11-3 on the season.
The double point was high contested between the Mavericks and Owls. Rice took the first match at the No. 2 position, 6-2 over
Momoka Horiguchi and
Bruna Casasampere. The Mavericks quickly responded with a 6-4 win by
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons at No. 3 to even up the doubles matches at 1-1. The Owls would come away on top, however, battling out a 7-5 win on court one over
Liz Chileno and
Nanaka Takeuchi.
Rice took a 2-0 lead to begin singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 over
Nanaka Takeuchi.
The lead increased to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court five over
Bruna Casasampere before locking up the match on court two with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Momoka Horiguchi,
Polina Akimova and
Carla Pons were all battling in their matches as Horiguchi and Akimova led into the second set, while Pons forced a third set at No. 5.
