Wichita, Kan. - The UT Arlington men's tennis team fell to Denver on Sunday morning 4-0 in Wichita.The loss moves the Mavericks to 6-7 on the season.
The doubles point was a hard-fought point between the two teams. The Mavs jumped out early with
Alan Sau Franco and
Alejandro Hayen taking No. 2 doubles 6-0. That would be the last match they took in doubles competition though, falling 6-2 on court one and 6-4 on court three as the Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead.
Needin just three wins to take the match, the Pioneers took courts four through six in straight sets to pick up the victory.
Ricardo Alban was the first to fall, dropping No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Solano Caffarena was the next to lose as Denver took a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
The Pioneers clinched the victory with a 6-2, 7-5 win over
Alejandro Hayen on court five.
