WICHITA, Kan. – The UT Arlington men's tennis team put up a fight against the No. 34 Wichita State Shockers on Monday afternoon, but fell 4-0 in Wichita. With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 6-8 on the season.
The Shockers came out on top in the doubles point to start the match.
Nick Beamish and
Alan Sau Franco fell at the No. 1 position 6-1. Wichita State secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles over
Angel Diaz and
Miguel Cabrera.
The momentum from doubles carried over into singles for the Shockers. Orel Ovil defeated
Alejandro Hayen at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-3 to put the Shockers up 2-0.
Stefan Latinovic quickly followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over
Miguel Cabrera at the No. 3 singles position to put the Shockers one point away from victory.
The Shockers ended the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over
Eduard Simo at the No. 6 singles position.
Angel Diaz was winning 6-1, 5-3 at the No. 1 position when the match was called.
