NORMAN, Okla. - The UT Arlington men's tennis team lost to 20th-ranked Oklahoma on Tuesday after noon 4-0 at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Mavericks fall to 6-9 on the season with the loss.
The Sooners went straight to business in doubles action, taking No. 1 and No. 3 to win the doubles point. No. 28 Alex Martinez and Nathan Han took down
Alejandro Hayen and
Alan Sau Franco first, by a score of 6-3. Jake Van Emburgh and Mason Beiler clinched the doubles point over
Miguel Cabrera and
Angel Diaz 6-4 to put the Sooners up 1-0.
Oklahoma continued its momentum into singles competition, taking the three required points to win the match, all in straight sets. Welsh Hotard defeated
Daichi Akiyoshi 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 to pick up the second point of the match for the Sooners.
Alex Martinez followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over
Miguel Cabrera at No. 3 to put the Sooners just one point away from victory.
No. 111 Mason Beiler finished the match, picking up the match-winning point at No. 2 over
Angel Diaz, 6-3, 6-2.
