HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team brought the bats tonight which contributed to their 8-1 win over the Sam Houston Bearkats Wednesday night in Huntsville, Texas.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
UTA recorded 15 hits on the night as senior third baseman
KJ Murphy remained hot at the plate finishing 3-4 with three RBI while center fielder
Reagan Hukill went 3-4 with a solo shot to center field – making that her fourth home run of the year.
Kenedy Hines joined Hukill with three hits on the night while
Jadyn Erickson ended with two.
Freshmen
Morgan Westbrook and
Raegan Edwards notched their first collegiate hits this season in pinch-hit situations.
Junior
Laura Henriksen earned the start on the mound for the Mavericks and threw four innings and only allowed two hits.
Kenedy Hines replaced Henriksen in the circle and went on to just throw one inning before junior
Allie Gardiner entered the circle.
Gardiner went on to throw two innings and kept the Bearkats off the board giving Henriksen the win.
PLAY BY PLAY
- UTA wasted no time and grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Erickson across in their first at-bats.
- The Mavericks carried their momentum into the second and third inning to make it 4-0 courtesy of base-hits from Murphy and Carreon.
- The Bearkats scratched their first run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit down to 3.
- Hukill smacked a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning followed by Amber Langston's RBI that plated Murphy in the sixth inning to extend UTA's lead 7-1.
- In UTA's last at-bats, Murphy drew a walk that brought one more run across to make it 8-1.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will continue Sun Belt Conference play and travel to Monroe, Louisiana to face ULM with a doubleheader beginning Friday (Apr. 2) at 1:00 p.m. and will wrap up the series on Saturday (Apr. 3) at 12:00 p.m.
