Softball Falls Short to No. 23 Iowa State

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team fell to No. 23 Iowa State 8-2 Friday night at Allan Saxe Field. After a run scored courtesy of two doubles from Reagan Hukill and Kenedy Hines in the seventh inning, UTA's comeback bid ultimately fell short.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Sophomore Jadyn Erickson and fellow sophomore Reagan Hukill paced UTA's offense going 1-2 with a walk. Following closely behind is Kenedy Hines and Sophie Wideman who both went 1-3.

After three straight walks from Jadyn Erickson, KJ Murphy and Aileen Garcia, catcher Sophie Wideman knocked in one run to take an early lead 1-0 in the first inning.

Sophomore Kenedy Hines (0-3) started on the mound for the Mavericks and threw 3.2 innings allowing four hits before senior Jojo Valencia replaced Hines in the circle. The senior went on to face just six batter allowing one run off one it (1.1 IP).

Junior Allie Gardiner made an appearance in the sixth inning and threw the remainder of the game allowing one hit over two innings pitched.

PLAY BY PLAY
  • After three straight walks from Jadyn Erickson, KJ Murphy and Aileen Garcia, catcher Sophie Wideman knocked in one run to take an early lead 1-0 in the first inning.
  • Iowa State answered back with six runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead 6-1.
  • The Cyclones plated two more across in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead 8-1.
  • UTA went through five innings without plating a run until back-to-back doubles from Reagan Hukill and Kenedy Hines scored one more in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Despite a seventh inning rally, the Mavericks came up short, 8-2.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will commence Saturday action with a doubleheader starting with Missouri State at 4:30 p.m. followed by Wichita State at 7:00 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
