ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team kept their perfect record intact on Saturday, sweeping Wichita State 4-0 at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavs are now 6-0 on the season, while the Shockers fall to 3-11.
Wichita State began the day by taking the No. 1 doubles position over
Polina Akimova and
Nanaka Takeuchi 6-0.
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons quickly evened up the doubles score by taking court three 6-1. Freshman Bruna Cassampere and partner
Momoka Horiguchi finished doubles by taking court two 6-3 and giving the Mavs the doubles point.
The Mavs wasted no time finishing the match, quickly taking the three matches needed to end the match and head home. Boza fought to take set one 7-5, before cruising to a 6-1 win in set two to take No. 6 singles.
Polina Akimova following suit, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-0. Needing just one more point to win the match,
Carla Pons ended it, winning the No. 4 position 6-2, 6-4 over Jessie Zheng.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Monday when they host UT Tyler at the UTA Tennis Center. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Monday.
