Baseball Falls In Series Finale At UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team fell to the UTSA Roadrunners in the final game of a four-game series on Sunday, 16-1.  The Mavericks fall to 5-5 on the year, while the Roadrunners improve to 5-2.

The Mavericks finished with five hits on the day.  Boone Montgomery led UTA with two hits, including a double.  Andrew Miller scored the lone run for the Mavericks. Tommy Williams, Anthony Dominguez and JD Wadleigh each finished with one hit.

Matt Novis (L, 0-1) started his first career-game for the Mavericks tossing 3.1 innings in the loss. He gave up four runs off three hits, while striking out five.  The Mavericks used six arms out of the bullpen.  Logan Austin, Riley Bost, Brennan Smith, Brayden Brooks, Tristan Tom and Trevor Pruitt tossed the final 4.2 innings, combining to give up 12 runs off 15 hits.

The Roadrunners scored early, putting up one run in the second inning.  UTSA used a single to right field to bring in a baserunner who had walked earlier in the inning.

After a quiet inning in the third, UTSA widened their lead in the 4th. The Roadrunners came away with three runs off three hits to make the score 4-0.

The Maverick cut into the deficit in the fifth inning, taking advantage of two errors that allowed the first three batters to reach base.  An error on a hit to second from Minjarez pushed Miller across home plate.

UTSA continued to put up runs in the fifth inning as the first three batters reached base.  The Roadrunners used three hits to score four runs and extend their lead to 8-1.

The sixth inning fared no better for the Mavericks.  UTSA scored four runs off two, two-run home runs to take an eleven-run lead

Two more runs were plated in the seventh as the Roadrunners pushed the score to 14-1.  Once again, the first three batters reached base.

The scoring would subside only as the game ended as the Roadrunners played two more runs in the eighth inning off two hits and three walks.
