NORMAN, Oklahoma– A four-run first inning wasn't enough to power the UT Arlington baseball team (5-6) to victory, losing to Oklahoma (6-6) 15-5 at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Tuesday night.
After falling behind 4-0, the Sooners would score nine combined runs in the second and third inning to take the lead over the Mavericks.
UTA finished with eight hits on the day – half of them coming off the bat of
Dylan Paul who went 4-for-4 at the plate.
Boone Montgomery and
Andrew Miller each connected on a home run. Miller led the Mavericks with three RBI.
Cade Winquest (L, 0-1) started for the Mavericks, throwing 2.0 innings in the loss. He allowed six runs off five hits while striking out four three batters.
Zach Norris (3.1 IP),
Wyatt Divis (1.1 IP) and
Tanner King (1.1 IP) finished the game in relief, allowing the final nine runs off 10 hits.
The Mavericks came out swinging in the first.
Tommy Williams and
Boone Montgomery reach base off walks before Paul drove in Williams with a chopper to third base. Miller followed up Paul with a three-run blast to left-center to put the Mavericks up 4-0.
The Sooners used a three-run second inning to cut the Mavericks lead to one run. A wild pitch scored the first run before OU used a two-run double to make it a 4-3 game.
UTA got one back in the third with a solo shot to left field from
Boone Montgomery.
The Sooners opened it up in the third inning. OU used four hits, including a home run, to score six runs and take a 9-5 lead. The Sooners scored four runs before the Mavs were able to record an out.
Two more hits in the sixth inning were able to score one more run for the Sooners to extend their lead to five runs.
The Sooners it their second home run in the seventh inning, this time score two runs to push the score to 12-5.
Oklahoma extended their lead to ten runs in the eighth inning, scoring three more runs off a single and two-RBI triple.

The Mavericks will return to Arlington to host Lamar for a three-game series beginning Thursday (March 11) at 6:30 pm at Clay Gould Ballpark.
