ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team downed North Texas 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field with the 6.2 inning, stellar performance in the circle from
Kenedy Hines.
With the victory, the Mavericks' went 2-3 in the 2
nd Boerner Invitational with an overall record of 3-10.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior
KJ Murphy and freshman
Jessica Carreon both went 1-3 at the plate. Murphy smacked her fifth double of the season while Carreon carries a team-high batting average of .345.
Sophomore left fielder
Jadyn Erickson flashed the leather twice out in left field making two diving catches and one being with UNT runners in scoring position with two outs.
Right hander
Kenedy Hines got her fifth start on the mound for the Mavs and threw 6.2 innings and allowed just four hits through her time in the circle. The sophomore struck out five out of 27 batters she faced. Hines recorded her first win of the season (1-5).
Allie Gardiner came on the mound to get the last out of the game and earned her first save of the 2021 season.
PLAY BY PLAY
- UTA plated the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after Jadyn Erickson drew a walk and senior KJ Murphy smacked a double advancing Erickson to third with 1 out.
- First baseman Aileen Garcia executed a squeeze which scored Erickson from third before a UNT error would score the second run. UTA took the lead 2-0.
- Hines and Gardiner kept the Mean Green off the board through the entire seven-inning game.
- UTA downed North Texas 2-0, now with an overall record of 3-10.

UTA will hit the road for a midweek game at No. 1 Oklahoma Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Marita Hynes Field.
