SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (6-10) was unable to overcome a doubles point loss to UTSA on Saturday afternoon, losing 4-3 at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The two teams battled for a doubles victory to start the match. The Roadrunners took the first doubles match at No. 1, 6-3 over
Alan Sau Franco and
Alejandro Hayen. The Mavericks evened it up with a 6-4 win at No. 2 by
Nick Beamish and
Solano Caffarena. With the point coming down to court three, UTSA was able to squeeze out a 7-5 victory over
Miguel Cabrera and
Angel Diaz.
The Roadrunners picked up two more quick points in singles competition, taking down
Angel Diaz (6-2, 6-4) on court two and
Nick Beamish (6-2, 6-2) on court six. The Mavericks would even the match by taking three straight singles matches.
Miguel Cabrera won No. 3 singles 6-2, 7-5 to capture the first point for the Mavericks, before
Alejandro Hayen followed with a 6-5, 7-6 win at No. 4.
Alan Sau Franco battled at No. 1, winning in a three-set thriller 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to even the match at three points for each team.
The match came down to
Solano Caffarena and Javier Rodriguez at No. 5. After dropping the first set 3-6, Caffarena battle back to win set two 6-2. It wouldn't be enough, however, as Rodriguez would take the final set 6-2 to capture the match and win for the Roadrunners.
