ABILENE, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team fell to Abilene Christian on Tuesday night in a high-scoring affair, 11-10. The Mavericks fall to 14-18 on the season with the loss.
The Mavericks used six pitchers in the loss with
Cade Winquest (L, 0-4) picking up the start. He gave up seven runs off three hits, while striking out three in three innings pitched.
Wyatt Divis threw one inning, giving up two runs off two hits, while striking out two.
Tristan Tom,
Riley Bost and
Matt Novis each tossed one shutout inning, while
Brayden Brooks threw one inning and gave up two runs.
The Mavericks finished with eight hits, led by
Sam Gotlieb's 2-for-3 day at the plate. He scored twice and knocked in one run.
Dylan Paul and
Justin Marino led the Mavericks with two RBI, while
Boone Montgomery and
Wyatt Divis each added one.
The Wildcats got straight to work in the first inning, quickly loading the bases with the first three batters. A fielder's choice with the next batter scored the first run for ACU and kept runners at first and second. Following a strikeout, Miller Ladusau hit a home run to right center to put ACU up 4-0.
With one out, the Mavericks loaded the bases in the top of the third.
Wyatt Divis hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the first run of the inning.
Connor Aube reached on an error, scoring one more run in the process, before
Dylan Paul hit a line drive to right center to score two more runs and tie the game at four.
Abilene quickly jumped back on top putting runners on the corners with two outs before Bryson Hill hit a single to right field to score the fifth run for the Wildcats. A wild pitch scored the second run of the inning to put ACU up 6-4.
Phillip Childs and
Tommy Williams started out the fourth inning by reaching base. A wild pitch allowed Childs to score the first run of the inning.
Sam Gotlieb followed with a ground ball to third base to tie the game at six.
The Wildcats went straight back to business in the bottom of the fourth to recapture the lead. Two walks gave ACU two baserunners before Brett Hammit connect on a three-run home run to left field.
Sam Gotlieb led with the seventh with a double before advancing to third from a passed ball.
Boone Montgomery brought him home with a line drive to center field. Montgomery would be brough home with a sacrifice fly from
Connor Aube to score the second run of the inning.
ACU used back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. A sacrifice bunt scored one of the runners, while a double by the next batter pushed the second runner past home as the Wildcats increased their lead to three.
The Mavericks got the two runs back in the top of the eighth. Minjarez and Childs both singled before
Justin Marino drove them in with his pinch hit make the score 11-10 in favor of the Wildcats.

The Mavericks will return to Sun Belt play, traveling to Jonesboro, Arkansas to take on Arkansas State in a three-game series this weekend beginning Friday, April 16.
