CONWAY, South Carolina – The Chanticleers took game one from the UT Arlington softball team as the Mavericks fell 8-5 in Conway Saturday afternoon.

UTA's lineup produced a total of six hits in the contest from senior
KJ Murphy (2-3, 2RBI), who notched her eleventh double of the season, center fielder
Reagan Hukill (2-3, 2 RBI),
Kimber Cortemelia (1-2) and
Jessica Carreon (1-3).
Senior
JoJo Valencia started on the mound for the Mavericks and threw 2.2 innings allowing six earned runs while striking out four batters.
Sophomore
Kenedy Hines replaced Valencia and went on to throw just 1.1 innings allowing one earned run off four hits.
Allie Gardiner came in for relief and pitched 2 innings as UTA was unable to scratch anymore runs after the fifth inning giving Valencia the loss.
PLAY BY PLAY
- Jadyn Erickson reached on a throwing error by the pitcher and touch all four bases to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
- The Chanticleers knocked a two-run home run and a pair of RBI- singles to take a 6-1 lead in the third inning.
- Sophomore Hukill answered back with an RBI-double to center field that plated Madison Miller and Courtney Ogle across to cut the deficit down to three.
- Coastal scratched one off a solo home run in the fourth to make it a 7-3 game.
- Murphy delivered with a double to center field in the fifth that scored two more runs for the Mavs that cut the score 7-5.
- UTA was unable to answer back after the Chants hit a solo home run that made it an 8-5 game.

The Mavericks will play their final series at home against Appalachian State this weekend with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. and one game Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
