Box Score MIDLAND, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team saw success at the Midland Racquet Club Invitational last weekend, including
Alan Sau Franco winning his back draw on Sunday morning.
Sau Franco and
Miguel Cabrera both competed in the event, winning multiple matches. Cabrera started off hot taking two of his first three matches. He won 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 over Matthew Fung (Louisville) in the Round of 16 and 6-1, 6-4 over Wesley Barnett of Rice. He would fall in the semi finals to Sebastian Rodriguez (UTSA) 6-4, 6-4.
After starting 0-2 on the weekend, Sau Franco rebounded on the second back draw on Saturday and Sunday. He took down Alex Wesbrooks (Louisville) 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 in the quarterfinals. He then moved on to Kenner Taylor (Texas A&M) in the semifinals, defeating the Aggie 6-4, 0-6, 10-7 before defeating Mason Beiler (Oklahoma) 6-4, 6-4 in the championship. Defeating Beiler, Sau Franco successfully took down the #1 Sooner from a season ago.
In doubles play, the pair fell in their only match 8-4 in the round of 16.
