TROY, Ala. – The UT Arlington volleyball team (2-9, 0-2 Sun Belt) lost in three sets to the Troy Trojans (8-5, 2-2 Sun Belt) on Saturday night in Trojan Arena 23-25, 22-25, 19-25.
The Mavericks were led by
Brianna Ford, who had 11 kills while hitting .556.
Brooke Townsend also finished with double-digit kills, ending the match with 10. The Mavericks were paced by
Mollie Blank (19 assists) and
Jessica Stancliff (13 assists).
Alli Wells led UTA with 13 digs, while Blank finished one dig short of a double-double. UTA finished with three blocks, led by
Monica LaFleur (3) and
Kainah Williams (2).
SET 1 | UTA 23, TROY 25 | TROY LEADS 1-0
A battle ensued in set one with the largest lead either team could get was three, at a score of 11-8 following a Briana Ford kill. The Trojans battled back with a 3-0 run to tie the set at 19 and force a timeout. The team traded points until the Trojans scored back-to-back points in the final two points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
SET 2 | UTA 22, TROY 25 | TROY LEADS 2-0
The Trojans jumped out to an early 9-4 lead, but a kill from
Briana Brown sparked a 6-1 run as the Mavericks came back to tie the set at 10. With the set still tied at 20, Troy took a timeout to try and regroup. The Trojans would win five of the final seven points to take set two 25-22.
SET 3 | UTA 19, TROY 25 | TROY WINS 3-0
Troy took an early in set three, winning eight of the first nine points to lead 9-1. UTA was able to close the deficit to four points at 14-10 with a kill from
Brianna Ford, but that would be the closest the Mavs would get. The Trojans would use short two-point spirts to increase their lead to as many as seven points before winning 25-19.

The Mavericks will return to the College Park Center to take on Louisiana on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
