ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's basketball team look to cap their Georgia road tirp with a win as they battle Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT inside Hanner Fieldhouse.
3-POINTERS
- Coming off a dominant performance against Georgia State, the UT Arlington women's basketball team will look to carry that momentum into Saturday afternoon as they take on Georgia Southern inside Hanner Fieldhouse.
- It will be the 11th meeting between the Lady Mavs and the Eagles and the first meeting since the 2019-20 season. UTA holds a dominant 9-1 advantage over Georgia Southern as has won four in a row. The Lady Mavs are 4-1 inside Hanner Fieldhouse.
- UTA is now 5-1 on the road, their best start away from home since 2018-19 when they also started 5-1 on the road. They would finish 12-4 on the road that season.
LAST TIME OUT: GEORGIA STATE
- UTA used a huge first half to roll to a 82-68 win on Thursday evening inside the GSU Sports Arena.
- It is the seventh 20+ point game from Starr Jacobs this season. She has scored in double digits in every game this season.
- In the first quarter, UTA shot 9 of 16 (56%) from the field including a pair of 3-pointers.
- UTA knocked down six 3-pointers as a team, the most since Nov. 20, 2021, when they knocked down eight against North Texas.
- Five different Lady Mavs knocked down a triple led by a pair from Reniya Jones.
- Jacobs had scored 20 or more points in all three Sun Belt Conference road games.
- UTA is now 4-0 in games coming off of a loss and 8-2 in the Shereka Wright era.
- The Lady Mavs led wire-to-wire for only the second time this season. The last time they did was against Sam Houston on Nov. 13.
- The 32 point lead was the largest lead UTA has opened up this season.
- UTA had 10 steals on the night, their fourth straight game with double-digit steals.
SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
- Georgia Southern comes in at 10-5 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt. The Eagles have wins over Auburn, FIU, and Arkansas State, but has dropped two straight games to Coastal Carolina and Texas State.
- Georgia Southern is shooting 45.8% from the field this season, which leads the Sun Belt Conference, but the Eagles are shooting just 27.7% from three-point range, which ranks eighth in the league.
- The Eagles are currently averaging 84.6 ppg to start the 2021-22 season, which ranks fourth in the nation.
- The Eagles are forcing 24.40 turnovers per game, which ranks fourth in the nation.
- Georgia Southern is averaging 15.3 assists per game in 2021-22, and four times this season has registered 20+ assists, one of the big reasons why the Eagles rank as one of the top offensive teams in the nation.
- Terren Ward is the leading scorer for the Eagles with 13.5 points per game off the bench. She comes off a monster game against Texas State with 23 points and a career-high seven steals.
- All year long, the Eagles have been successful in getting to the foul line. Georgia Southern ranks fourth in the nation in free throws made and fifth in free throws attempted, hitting 242-of-346 foul shots for a 69.9 free throw percentage.
- Last season, Georgia Southern finished 11-13 overall and 5-9 in the SBC. They fell in their opening round contest to Texas State in the SBC Tournament in Pensacola.
FIVE STARR
Starr Jacobs has put together an unbelievable season by every metric thus far for the Lady Mavs.
Jacobs is 18th in the country in field goal percentage (.576), 24th in the nation in field goals made (106), and 28th in the country in points per game (19.4). Jacobs is also 100th in the NCAA and fifth in the Sun Belt in steals per game with 2.22.
Jacobs has scored 10 or more points in all 13 contests this season and 20 or more points in seven games this season. Additionally, Jacobs has made five or more field goals in every single contest this season and shot above 50% in 10 of 13 games.
The one struggle Jacobs had at times this season was at the free throw line, but in the last few weeks, she has began to made an impact at the charity stripe.
Going into conference play, Jacobs was shooting 18 of 41 (. 439) from the free throw line. In her last three games, Jacobs has gone 22 of 27 (.815) from the line, including 6 of 6 against ULM.
In Las Vegas, Jacobs put together one of her best weekends as she combined to go 26 of 41 (63.4%) from the field while averaging 27.5 points to go with 3.5 steals. She scored 28 on 14 of 24 shooting against UNLV and followed that up with 27 on 12 of 17 from the field against Kansas City.
Jacobs added her name to the record books as her 14 made field goals against UNLV on Nov. 27 was good for the third-most all-time in a single game in UTA history. Her 12 made field goals against Kansas City on Nov. 28 tied her for ninth all-time.
BIG KAT MOVES TO 2ND
With an assist in the third quarter against Rice on Dec. 4, 2021, senior
Katie Ferrell tied Terra Wallace for second all-time in career assists with 409.
Ferrell moved into sole possession of second place early in the first quarter against Oklahoma State on Dec. 17.
Against #13/17 South Florida on Dec. 2, 2021, Ferrell became the third Lady Mav in school history to eclipse 400 career assists.
Ferrell is currently third in the Sun Belt Conference in assists with 4.8 per game and first in assist/turnover ratio at 2.6. Her assist/turnover ratio is good for 24th in the country.
Ferrell will have an outside chance to become the all-time leader in assists as she is 133 behind Krystal Buchanan. Ferrell is 13assists away from moving into the Top 25 in career assists in the Sun Belt.
TERRYN JUMPS TWO SPOTS
With her third assist in the second quarter on Jan. 13 against Georgia State, senior
Terryn Milton moved into sixth all-time in career assists, passing Shalyn Martin at 334. Milton now sits at 335 assists in her career.
Milton is only six away from passing Tamara Simmons and moving into fifth place. Milton is 31 assists away from moving as high as fourth all-time.
Milton is fifth in the Sun Belt in assists per game with 3.8 and second in the SBC in assist/turnover ratio at 2.2, also good for 33rd in the country. She had a season-high nine assists against Sam Houston on Nov. 13, where she became the ninth Lady Mav in school history to eclipse 300 career assists.
Milton, along with Ferrell, have become the second duo in school history from the same recruiting class to each have 300 or more assists in a career. Tamara Simmons and Shalyn Martin accomplished this feat in 2011.
Milton and Ferrell passed Simmons and Martin for the most assists by a duo in school history against Houston on Nov. 17 at 676. They became the first duo to surpass 700 combined assists in the win over UNLV on Nov. 27.

DISHING OUT DIMES
UTA is first in the Sun Belt in assist turnover ratio and inside the top 50 nationally at 43rd. In their 13 games played this season, UTA is 8-1 when they have a plus assists turnover ratio and 7-0 overall when they have at least 15 assists or more as a team. UTA is 52nd in the country with the fewest turnovers at only 179.
The Lady Mavs are 1-3 this season when they have a negative assist turnover ratio including three losses by 10 points or more.
The Lady Mavs have 10 or more assists as team in 11 consecutive games including a season-high 20 in a win over Rice on Dec. 4.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE T
Terryn Milton earned her first-career double-double in the home loss to Troy last Saturday. Milton finished with 13 points on the afternoon, including a career-high 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Mavs. It was the first time this season a Lady Mav had a double-double as well as finished with 10 or more rebounds.
Additionally, Milton has been excellent on the defensive end in conference play, finishing with two or more steals in three contests thus far. Milton tied a career-high with five steals against ULM before turning around and picking up four steals against Troy. Her 3.0 steals per game in conference play currently leads the SBC.
BENCH MOB
Two seniors played a huge role off the bench for UTA during their 2-0 opening weekend of conference play as
Camryn Hawkins and
Emma Halverson played vital roles in the pair of victories.
Hawkins played a huge role in the win over Louisiana, finishing with a season-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers, one coming at a key time in the second half to halt a Cajuns run.
Halverson put together one of the better all-around games in her career against ULM as she scored a season-high 11 points to go with eight rebounds, a career-high four assists, and two steals.
In the win over Georgia State,
Shyia Smith scored eight off the bench, while
Reniya Jones knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. Hawkins and
Stephanie Mosley each had two steals.
The bench has contributed in big ways as of late as it has scored 10 or more points in six straight games.
AMONG THE ELITE
UTA has been one of the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference year in and year out since joining the league in 2013-14. The Lady Mavs have been .500 or better every year except their very first season and have currently won 10 or more conference games in seven straight seasons, a conference-leading mark they hold with Troy.
