ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington men's tennis team swept their competition on Friday at the UTA Tennis Center, opening up the 2022 campaign with 7-0 victories over Dallas Baptist and Prairie View A&M.
The Mavericks quickly opened with the doubles point as
Maks Lukman and
Alan Sau Franco took court two 6-2, while
Miguel Cabrera and
Daichi Akiyoshi won 6-0 on court three.
All but one match went in straight sets in singles play.
Daichi Akiyoshi finished with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the number five slot, while
Miguel Cabrera finished with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court two.
Solano Caffarena took court three 6-2, 6-1 before
Maks Lukman secured the victory on court four 6-0, 6-4. Newcomer
Habib Stambouli took court six 6-1, 6-3.
In the lone match to go three sets,
Ricardo Alban took care of business. After winning the first set 6-2, Alban fell 4-6 in set two, but bounced back to secure the sweep 6-3.
UTA wasted no time in the afternoon match, taking the doubles point in dominating fashion. Sau Franco and Lukman took court two 6-0, while Akiyoshi and Cabrera following with the same score on court three.
The Mavericks took every singles match in straight sets, beginning with a 6-1, 2-0, retirement win for
Maks Lukman on court three.
Ricardo Alban followed at the number four spot 6-2, 6-0, while Akiyoshi (#5) and Stambouli (#6) both win 6-1.
Alan Sau Franco and
Solano Caffarena secured courts one and two for the Mavericks, as Sau Franco handled court one 6-3, 6-3 and Caffarena won on court two 6-3, 6-1.
ON DECK
The Mavs will be back in action on next Friday when they host SE Oklahoma State (10 am) and Cameron (2 pm) at the UTA Tennis Center for another doubleheader.
