ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (3-0) continued their hot streak to start the season, going a third straight match without relinquishing a point as they defeated UTPB 7-0 at the UTA Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks started the match wit hard-earned doubles point. After
Ricardo Alban and
Habib Stambouli secured the win on court two 6-2, courts one and three came down to the wire.
Alan Sau Franco and
Maks Lukman were able to close out court one 7-5 to pick up the doubles point, while
Daichi Akiyoshi and
Miguel Cabrera ended their match unfinished tied at six on court three.
Due to the winter storm that blew through North Texas over the past week, the Mavericks were forced to play with limited courts, which meant just four singles matches could play at a time.
Maks Lukman was able was the first to pick up a point, winning by retirement after leading his opponent 5-2 in the first set.
Miguel Cabrera followed suit not long after with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court three before
Habib Stambouli clinched the victory for the Mavericks less than a minute later with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court four.
With the match already in hand,
Alan Sau Franco took down his opponent on court one by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
With the conclusion of the first four matches,
Ricardo Alban and
Daichi Akiyoshi began play for the final two matches but wasted no time ending the match. Alban won 6-3, 6-1 on court five, while Akiyoshi won 6-1, 6-1 on court six.
UP NEXT
UTA will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders on Tuesday, February 6 at noon.
