ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's tennis team opened the season with a pair of wins on Friday, securing a sweep over Dallas Baptist in the morning, before taking down Prairie View A&M 5-2 in the afternoon slot.
 
Against Dallas Baptist, the Mavericks started off strong, taking the doubles matches on court two and three. 
Ana Paula Jimenez and 
Liz Chileno finished first with a 6-0 win on court two, before 
Carla Pons and 
Nika Novikova followed up with a 6-2 win on court three.
 
The domination continued for the Mavericks with four of the six singles matches ending in straight sets. 
Momoka Horiguchi took court one 6-0, 6-4. Freshman 
Sarina Reinertsen claimed court three with a 6-3, 6-1 win. On court five, 
Tara Gorinsek won handidly 6-1, 6-2 before 
Ana Paula Jimenez won on court six 6-0, 6-1.
 
Both 
Carla Pons (#2) and 
Ioana Dumitrescu (#4) went to three sets, but they were both able to secure their wins to pick up the season-opening sweep.
 
The afternoon match was a bit tighter with the doubles point split through the first two matches.  Horiguchi and Gorinsek picked up their first win of the season 6-0 on court one, but Pons and 
Bruna Casasampere fell 0-6 on court three.  Paula Jimenez and Chileno claimed the doubles point on court two with a 6-2 win.
 
In singles play, all but one match went in straight sets.  Reinertsen won decisively  6-0, 6-0 on court five, while Gorinsek took court four 6-1, 6-1. 
Nika Novikova fell 6-3, 6-3 on court six, but 
Carla Pons made up for with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court three. 
Momoka Horiguchi took the number two slot 6-0, 6-4.  
Liz Chileno battled on court one, but ultimately fell 6-7, 6-1, 5-10.
 
ON DECK
The Mavs will be back in action on Sunday when they take on New Mexico State (10 am) and Weatherford (2 pm)
