ARLINGTON, Texas – University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) are excited to announce a group licensing agreement across all the Mavericks' 15 Division-I athletics programs. This partnership enables UTA student-athletes to profit from their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) using the school's official trademarks and logos. UTA joins UT Austin, UTSA, UTEP, UTPB and UTRGV as schools in the University of Texas system that have group licensing agreements with TBG.
"This partnership with the The Brandr Group is a great initial step in providing our student-athletes with opportunities to monetize their Name, Image and Likeness and continue enhancing their personal brands," said UTA Director of Athletics
Jon Fagg. "We're looking forward to launching co-branded products through TBG, which I'm confident our fanbase will invest in to support our student-athletes. And as the NIL landscape evolves, we will remain diligent in seeking out every strategic alliance and platform for our student-athletes to capitalize on and build their portfolios."
The collaboration with TBG allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with UTA logos and marks. Student-athletes can join a group licensing program on a voluntary basis. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes while not limiting individual NIL rights. Potential licensees interested in learning more about the program should contact
Jim Neish at TBG.
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program while also developing licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations in the college space.
Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a significant portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program provides the same opportunities for student-athletes at the collegiate level.
"We are proud to now have partnerships with six UT System schools with the addition of UT Arlington," said Rick Perko, Vice President of Program Development at TBG. "Through this group licensing agreement, UTA student-athletes can now financially benefit from their NIL through co-branded opportunities across UTA's merchandising and sponsor portfolio. The Mavericks fanbase will also benefit with new ways to support their favorite players."
Fans can expect to be able to purchase official UTA merchandise, including team jerseys with the name and number of Mavericks players who have joined the respective group licensing program, once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees. More information on the type of, and when, merchandise will be available to be purchased is expected later this fall.
