INSIDE THE SCORES
HICKS
Starting on the 10th hole like the rest of his teammates, Hicks was met with a double bogey on the par-3 11th, but quickly regrouped with birdies on three of his next four holes to get to -1. That's where he remained until carding another birdie on the par-4 1st to move to -2. After a bogey on the 3rd, the Arlington native rolled in his fifth, and final, birdie of the day on the par-4 6th and signed for the 70.
CRONJE
The South African opened with a birdie on the par-5 10th and carded another on the short par-4 14th, but made the turn in +2. He got one stroke back with a birdie on the 2nd, but played the last three holes in 4-over par to get into the clubhouse with a 77.
MIYA
Miya quickly got to -2 with birdies on the 11th and 15th. After giving one of those back with a bogey on the long par-4 18th, he rebounded with a birdie on the 2nd. However, a bogey on the 4th and double bogey on the 7th pushed him over par before a closing 3 on the 502-yard 9th got him in at even.
JONES
Jones sandwiched a bogey in-between a pair of birdies on the 12th and 14th. A bogey on the 18th was quickly offset again by another birdie on the 2nd hole to get the Spring, Texas, native back into red figures before closing with a bogey on the 9th. However, the round of 72 represented a season best as Jones bettered his score each round of the tournament.
MENACHO
Along with Jones, Menacho also did not record anything worse than a bogey on the round. He opened with a birdie, but three bogeys over the next eight holes had him make the turn in 2-over 38. A birdie on the 2nd – which played as the easiest hole on the course Tuesday – got the Peru native back to +1, but a closing stretch of bogeys resulted in the 77.
THIS AND THAT
Hicks made the lone UTA birdie of the day on the 442-yard, par-4 6th … UTA finished 7th in the field in par-5 scoring (-16, 4.73) … the Mavs collectively totaled 51 birdies and two eagles over the three rounds … Hicks tied for 5th in the field in par-4 scoring for the week (-3, 3.90) … the 2nd hole played nearly half a shot under par on Tuesday (-0.48, 4.52), yielding 46 birdies, two eagles and just five bogeys.
NEXT UP
A third tournament in as many weeks awaits the Mavs when they head to east Texas for the Tempest Collegiate in Gladewater Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11. The event will be hosted by Texas State at The Tempest Golf Club – the second-straight week the course welcomes a collegiate event as Division-III LeTourneau put on the Tempest Intercollegiate Oct. 3-4.
