ARLINGTON – With the 2022-23 season just one game underway, the UT Arlington men's basketball team has already added an expected key piece to its 2023-24 roster as Kade Douglas signed a National Letter of Intent to join
Greg Young's program as a freshman next year.
Â
A 6-2, 170-pound combo guard from Lancaster High School just a half hour from UTA's campus, Douglas is heralded as a 3-star prospect by well-respected recruiting service 247Sports. Additionally, he is ranked as the #39 combo guard in the nation and the #31 overall recruit in Texas.
Â
A three-year letterwinner with the Tigers, Douglas is an impact maker in all phases of the game as last year he averaged 15 points, 4.7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. He has already earned multiple awards at the 5A level, including being named to the 2021-22 District 14-5A First Team and as the 2020-21 District 14-5A Sophomore of the Year.
"We are so excited to announce the early signing of Kade," said Young, who just began his second season at the helm of the Mavs. "Kade is a very competitive, skilled guard who just continues to get better every day he plays. He fits what we want from a Texas high school metroplex player.
Â
"He plays in a traditional powerhouse program at Lancaster for his dad, coach Ferron Douglas, is a tremendous young man with high character who knows how to compete and win," Young emphasized. "I can't wait to coach Kade and have him in our program next year."
Â
In addition to his accolades at Lancaster, Douglas has also been a 2022 Steph Curry UNDERRATED Tour Camp participant and a 2022 Chris Bosh Dojo Camp member.
Â
The middle child – Kendahl (22) and Kollin (15) – of Ferrin and Tamara, Douglas has not only been coached by his father on the court, but that coaching from his parents has extended to the classroom as he has been an All-State Academic Team member with a 4.0 GPA.
Â
"Kade is a mentally tough young man who I love to coach," added his father and coach, Ferrin. Even if he wasn't my son, I would feel the same exact way about him."
Â
Douglas is the first, and only planned, signee for Young's staff during the early signing period. There is another signing period following the season beginning in mid-April.
Â
Young and his Mavericks return to the court this Saturday as part of Homecoming when UTA welcomes Southwestern to the College Park Center for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting
