ARLINGTON – UT Arlington head softball coach
Kara Dill announced the 2023 softball schedule Monday as it is highlighted by several power five opponents along with two home tournaments and 24 home games.
Save the date for UTA Softball's First Pitch Banquet that will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28. More information regarding the banquet and season tickets release date will be available in the coming weeks.
"Our schedule offers a great variety this season," said Dill. "We're fortunate to open the year at Allan Saxe Field and host some great teams throughout the spring. We have a good mix of top RPI opponents and tough competition on the road that I feel like our team is ready for. We're looking forward to competing in a new conference and learning the style of play of our WAC opponents."
UTA will open the season with its very own Maverick Invitational (Feb. 10-12) that will feature Texas Tech and Tulsa. That following weekend, the Mavs will head up north on I-35 to North Texas' Tracy Beard Tournament (Feb. 17-19) where they will face UNT, South Dakota, McNeese and Dill's alma mater, Kentucky.
The Mavericks will compete in their third preseason tournament in San Marcos (Feb. 23-25) to play in the Texas State Classic that will feature Kansas, UTSA, Colorado State and Texas State. To round out February, UTA will travel to Waco on Feb. 28 to take on the Baylor Bears for its first midweek matchup of the season.
To commence March action, the Mavs will host Kansas City, Lamar and Rider as part of the 4th Boerner Invitational – their second and final home tournament of the season. The Boerner Invitational – named in honor of Melissa Boerner, a former UTA softball captain who was killed by a drunk driver the day before her senior year began in 1998 – is to help raise awareness to the importance of responsible drinking.
Following a Wednesday evening home game against Texas (Mar. 8), UTA will be back on the road to face Utah Valley (Mar. 15) followed by its first WAC series at Southern Utah (Mar. 17-18).
The Mavericks will face Baylor for a second time on Mar. 22 for a midweek homestand before jumping back into conference play Mar. 24-25 in Riverside, California for their series at California Baptist. After welcoming North Texas to Arlington on Mar. 29, the Mavs will wrap up March with a three-game series against Utah Tech at Allan Saxe Field (Mar. 31-Apr. 1).
UTA will travel to Stillwater to face power five opponent, Oklahoma State, on Apr. 12 after its series at Stephen F. Austin. The Mavs will be back home to welcome Abilene Christian (Apr. 14-15) to Arlington before their final midweek matchup of the season at McNeese.
The Mavericks will bring regular season play to a close with back-to-back series against Tarleton (Apr. 28-29) and Sam Houston (May 5-6) at Allan Saxe Field.
The WAC Tournament will take place in Phoenix, Ariz. from May 10-13 and will be hosted by GCU. NCAA postseason competition kicks off May 19 with the first round of NCAA Regionals.
