ABILENE, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (3-2) dropped a nail-biter against Abilene Christian on Friday afternoon, falling 4-3 to the Wildcats in Abilene.
The match started with the Wildcats picking up the doubles point over the Mavericks.
Daichi Akiyoshi and
Solano Caffarena fell on court one 6-1 before ACU wrapped up with a 6-4 win over
Miguel Cabrera and
Habib Stambouli on court three.
UTA took three of the six doubles matches, but it start off tough for the Mavericks as
Alan Sau Franco fell on court one 6-0, 6-4. Trailing 0-2 in the match,
Maks Lukman gave the Mavs their first point with a 6-4, 6-2 win at court five.
The Wildcats bounced back with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Akiyoshi on court four before
Habib Stambouli put the Mavericks back on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the number six slot.
Solano Caffarena evened the match on court three with a 6-4, 7-6 win.
All tied up at three points each, it came down to
Miguel Cabrera on court two. After falling in set one 0-6, he bounced back to win set two 7-6. However, it was too much to overcome as the Wildcats came out victorious with a 6-4 win in the third set to capture the overall match 4-3.
