Softball Drops Both Games in Season Opener

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – To commence the 2022 season, the UT Arlington softball team dropped both games to Western Kentucky (3-1) and host, Texas A&M (9-0) on Friday in the opening day of the Aggie Classic.

Sophomore Gracie Bumpurs got the start on the mound against the Hilltoppers while transfer Jessica Adams and senior Laura Henriksen shared time in the circle in game two against the Aggies.

At the plate, third baseman KJ Murphy paced UTA as she finished 2-4 on the day while Meagan Smith finished with one hit.

KJ Murphy (1-3), Meagan Smith (1-3) and Morgan Rios (1-3) were all responsible for the Mavericks' three hits of the contest while Smith also had UTA's lone RBI to her name.

Sophomore Bumpurs earned her first start in the circle for UTA this season and threw six innings. Bumpurs allowed just four hits and three runs across 26 batters faced. Unfortunately, the Mavericks could not get anything going for the remainder of the game, giving Bumpurs the loss (0-1).

The loss against the Aggies gave Adams her first loss of the season.
