May Named UTA Assistant Volleyball Coach

ARLINGTON – UT Arlington volleyball coach J.T. Wenger announced the hiring of Carlisa May to his coaching staff as Assistant Coach. May joins the Mavs after spending the past two seasons at the University of Houston.

"I am excited to add Carlisa to the staff, as she brings an energy and passion for volleyball that is contagious," said Wenger. "Carlisa understands what it takes to be a top performer and competitor; her knowledge will help our student-athletes down their developmental path.  She is a student of the game I am eager for her to start as a Mav."

May joined the Cougar staff in August of 2020, serving as a Graduate assistant before being elevated to Interim Assistant Coach for the 2021 season. During her two seasons at Houston, the Cougars went a combined 38-13 and won the American Athletic Conference West Division in 2020.

"I am excited and honored to be joining the staff and players at UTA," said May. "I want to thank Coach Wenger and the UTA Athletic Department for the opportunity to coach the sport that I'm passionate about at this level. I am eager to get started and contribute towards the vision of the program as we join the WAC and compete for championships."

Last October, she was one of 10 NCAA coaches to receive the 2021 AVCA Diversity Award

Prior to coaching, May was a standout outside hitter at Arkansas State, earning First Team All-Conference honors all four years she played.  She was also a three-time Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year honoree and was the 2015 SBC Freshman of the Year. She finished her career as the Red Wolves all-time leader in kills (1,901) and kills per set (4.14).
