ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's tennis team improved to 7-0 on the season with wins over Southern Arkansas (5-2) and UT Tyler (6-1) on Sunday, Feb. 13 at the UTA Tennis Center.
The morning match against Southern Arkansas started off with the Muleriders taking the doubles point, putting the Mavericks behind early on. SAU took courts one and three to earn the point.
The Mavericks quickly responded in singles competition, however, winning five of the six matches, including courts one through four.
Sarina Reinertsen got the scoring going with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court four, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 victory by
Tara Gorinsek on court two.
Ana Paula Jimenez picked up the third point with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court six.
Carla Pons captured the victor for UTA with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court three before
Liz Chileno wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the number one slot.
The afternoon slot faired even better for the Mavericks with UTA picking up the doubles point on courts one and three.
Momoka Horiguchi and
Tara Gorinsek took court one 6-3, while
Carla Pons and
Nika Novikova took court three 6-2.
In singles competition, the Mavs won every court except the number one position. Reinertsen started off the scoring one again with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, followed by Paula Jimenez with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Liz Chileno captured the win for the Mavericks at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-0 win, before
Tara Gorinsek (No. 2, 6-3, 6-1) and
Carla Pons (No. 4, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8) wrapped up the day with victories.
The Mavericks will be back in action next Sunday (Feb. 20) when they host SE Oklahoma State (10 AM) and Cameron (2 PM) at the UTA Tennis Center.
