ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington men's tennis team will play a trio of matches this weekend at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks begin the weekend taking on Oral Roberts on Friday at 2 p.m. before a doubleheader against SE Oklahoma State (10 am) and Cameron (2 pm) on Sunday, Feb. 20.
UTA is currently 4-3 on the year and are coming off a 5-2 win over UT Tyler last Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.
Two Mavericks have already reached double-digit victories dating back to tournament play –
Miguel Cabrera and
Alan Sau Franco. Both Cabrera and Sau Franco have 10 wins.
Ricardo Alban just two wins shy of reaching double digits.
In dual play,
Daichi Akiyoshi, Alban, and Cabrera all lead the Mavericks with 4 singles victories.
UTA is still searching for the correct doubles teams, as they currently have a 9-7 record in doubles play.
Maks Lukman and
Alan Sau Franco lead the Mavericks with three wins in doubles play, competing on court one and two.
SCOUTING ORAL ROBERTS
Oral Roberts is currently 0-4 on the year, falling to Wichita State (1-6), Saint Louis (2-4), Montana State (1-6) and Lamar (2-5). This will be the fourth meeting between ORU and UTA, with the Mavericks winning the previous three matches, dating back to 2009.
SCOUTING SE OKLAHOMA STATE
Southeastern Oklahoma State is currently 1-0 on the year with a win over UTPB on Monday. They will be playing DBU and UT Tyler on Friday and Saturday before heading to Arlington to take on the Mavericks. The two teams have played one time prior, with the Mavericks winning 7-0 last season in Arlington.
SCOUTING CAMERON
Cameron is currently 1-2 on the season, defeating Collin County and losing to Tyler JC and Southern Arkansas. Tomas Almeida leads the Aggies with a 2-1 record on Court Three. The Mavericks own a 17-0 record against Cameron, dating back to 1995. UTA took last season's matchup 6-1 in Arlington.
ON DECK
UTA will head to San Antonio next week (Feb. 26) for a match against UTSA.
