UTA Powers Past Baylor in 12-3 Run-Rule Victory

ARLINGTON, Texas – It was an electric night at Allan Saxe Field Tuesday night as the UT Arlington softball team (4-6) defeated Baylor on its home turf with a final score of 12-3.

The Mavericks relied off freshman pitcher Jessica Adams as the right-hander threw all five innings with three strike outs across 23 batters. The squad had eight
Mavs who all knocked at least one hit against the Bear that aided to the run-rule victory.

The last victory over Baylor came from the 2019 season where the Mavs picked up two wins in Waco at Baylor's Getterman Classic.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Baylor (W, 12-3)
Out of UTA's 14 hits in the contest, sophomore Morgan Westbrook led UTA's offense going 1-3 with 4 RBI and a three-run home run – her first of her career. Jessica Carreon (3-3) and Jadyn Erickson (3-3, 1 RBI) tabbed a perfect performance at the plate as the two came away with three hits apiece.

Freshman Aaliyah White followed with two hits on the night as she went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI. Third baseman KJ Murphy shared the spotlight with 2 RBI - now holds a team-high 8 RBI- as she recorded one hit against the Bears.

With a strong offense performance behind her, Adams picked up her second win of the season with a now 2-3 record in the circle.

PLAY BY PLAY: vs. Baylor (W, 12-3)
  • After a scoreless first inning on both sides, the Mavericks had a 11-run break out inning beginning with Morgan Westbrook's three-run bomb that put UTA on top in the second inning.
  • Still in the second inning, KJ Murphy added to the board with an RBI-single that extended the Mavs' lead 5-0. From there, UTA tabbed four singles and a double that scared six more runs to make it a 11-0 ball game.
  • Baylor answered back in the top of the third with a three-run home run that cut the deficit to 11-3.
  • In the bottom of the third, Westbrook reached in a Bear error that allowed for Morgan Max to score from third to make it 12-3.
  • Freshman Adams went on to retire eight Baylor batters to secure her second win of the season from the 12-3 victory.
ON DECK
UTA will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana to compete in the three-day Evangeline Bank and Trust II Invitational formerly known as the Cowgirl Classic II Feb. 25-27. McNeese will host UNLV, Memphis, Manhattan, Sam Houston and UTA.
