LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana - The UT Arlington softball team improved its record at McNeese's Evangeline Bank and Trust II Invitational to 2-1 as the Mavericks picked up an 8-5 win over Sam Houston Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Morgan Westbrook continues to lead UTA's bats as the right fielder has been key for the Maverick's lineup. Westbrook is 5-10 at the plate with 4 RBI so far this weekend.

Freshman Aaliyah White has also showed out going 4-7 with 3 RBI over the course of three games at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Sam Houston (W, 8-5)
Four Mavs came away with a multi-hit game against the Bearkats as KJ Murphy (2-3, 2 RBI), Reagan Hukill (2-3, 1 RBI), Morgan Westbrook (2-3, 2 RBI) and Aaliyah White (2-3, 2 RBI) all recorded two hits.

Jessica Adams got the start on the mound for the Mavericks as she went on to throw 4.2 innings allowing four earned runs off five hits. Adams struck out three Bearkats across 24 batters faced.

Right-handed pitcher Laura Henriksen came in for Adams in the top of the fifth inning and stayed in for the remainder of the contest. The senior permitted one hit over the 2.1 innings.

UTA came out on top 8-5 as the squad handed the Bearkats their eighth loss of the season, giving Adams her fourth win in the circle.  

PLAY BY PLAY: vs. Sam Houston (W, 8-5)

• UT Arlington gained an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Morgan Max and Reagan Hukill knocked in KJ Murphy and Jessica Carreon after the two recorded back-to-back singles.
• Sam Houston answered back with a solo home run in the second inning that cut the deficit to 1.
• The Mavericks went on to plate four more runs across the second and third inning as the Bearkats would only get two more across to make it a 6-3 ball game.
• It was an eventful fifth inning on both sides as Sam Houston added two runs to the board after a pair of singles with the score standing at 6-5.
• UTA plated two more insurance runs after a Bearkat error and an RBI-single from Murphy in the bottom of the fifth inning.
• The Mavs secured the 8-5 victory over Sam Houston as Henriksen kept the Bearkats off the board for the remainder of the contest.

ON DECK
The Mavericks will wrap up Evangeline Bank and Trust II Invitational action Sunday with a 2:45 p.m. game against the host, McNeese.
