Softball Swept in South Alabama Series

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (6-11) fell to South Alabama at Allan Saxe Field Sunday as UTA dropped its final game to begin Sun Belt Conference play with an 0-3 record. 

The Mavericks produced just four hits in Sunday's contest against South Alabama's Jenna Hardy as UTA was unable to plate anyone across dropping the final game of the series, 10-0.

Aaliyah White, Jadyn Erickson, KJ Murphy and Morgan Rios all shared one hit to contribute to the Maverick's four hits.

Right-hander Jessica Adams got the start in the circle for the Mavs as she went on to throw a total of 5.0 innings while pitching the first four before coming out of the game briefly for two innings.

Gracie Bumpurs made an appearance in the fifth for Adams as she went on to face 12 batters before Adams returned to the circle.

Over a total of 25 batters faced, Adams allowed five earned runs off six hits and three strike outs. The Mavericks were unable to plate any runs across giving Adams her seventh loss of the year.

  • After three scoreless innings on both sides, South Alabama scored first as the Jaguars knocked an RBI-single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Jags didn't stop there as they went on to have a break-out 5-run fifth inning to extend their lead 6-0.
  • Jadyn Erickson and KJ Murphy knocked back-to-back singles in the bottom of the sixth inning but a strike out and two ground outs ended the inning.
  • South Alabama's Gabby Stagner knocked a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning which made it a 10-0 ball game.
  • Sophomore Morgan Westbrook reached first with a lead-off walk in UTA's last at-bats as the Mavs were unfortunately unsuccessful in getting any runs across falling to the Jags 10-0.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will set their focus to two midweek contests at Incarnate Word Tuesday, March 15 at 4 p.m. in San Antonio before welcoming No. 13 Oklahoma State at Allan Saxe Field on Wednesday, March 16 with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
