Maverick Offense Powers Past UIW in 11-5 Victory

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (7-11) is back in the win column as the Mavericks picked up an 11-5 victory against Incarnate Word Tuesday night at H-E-B Field.

UTA's offense showed up and showed out against the Cardinals as the Mavs produced 12 hits that contributed to the 11-5 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Incarnate Word (W, 11-5)
Morgan Rios and Meagan Smith paced UTA's offense as both Mavs went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with 1 home run each. Not only did the pair knock three hits, but they also came away with a multi-RBI game as Rios recorded two RBI and Smith with three.

Third baseman KJ Murphy and outfielder Morgan Westbrook also played key roles in Tuesday's game as both Mavericks came away with two RBI.

Sophomore Gracie Bumpurs started on the mound for the Mavericks as she went on to throw 3.0 innings facing 17 batters.

Freshman Jessica Adams came in for Bumpurs as the right-hander threw the remainder of the contest while striking out three Cardinals over 20 faced. Adams moves on to a 5-7 record on the mound this season.

PLAY BY PLAY: at Incarnate Word (W, 11-5)
  • The Mavs came out swinging as the team took an early 1-0 lead after catcher Morgan Rios recorded an RBI-single that brought Murphy around.
  • UTA didn't stop there as the squad went on to plate nine more runs to extend their lead 9-0 featuring a solo bomb from the bat of Smith in the top of the third.
  • Heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cardinals scored their first pair of runs in the to cut the deficit down to 9-2.
  • Two more courtesy runs were added to the board after Rios knocked a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning before Incarnate Word added three more to the board in the bottom of the sixth that made it a 10-5 ball game.
  • UTA tabbed their final run of the game in the top of the seventh to secure the 11-5 victory over Incarnate Word.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will pick right back up with another midweek contest against No. 11 Oklahoma State. UTA will welcome the Cowgirls to Allan Saxe Field with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
