Mavericks Take Down No.11 Oklahoma State

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team powered past No. 11 Oklahoma State Wednesday night at Allan Saxe Field as the Mavericks defeated the Cowgirls 3-1.

An all-around solid performance from UTA's pitching, defense and timely hitting contributed to the victory over Oklahoma State. The Mavs relied on the arm of freshman pitcher Jessica Adams as the right-hander recorded a complete game allowing one run off four hits.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: No. 11 Oklahoma State (W, 3-1)
Third baseman KJ Murphy finished 1-3 on the night while senior Meagan Smith finished 1-2. Smith launched a two-run home run – her fifth of the season - that put the Mavs up 2-0 in the second inning. Smith has knocked back-to-back home runs in both games this week as her first one came from UTA's contest at Incarnate Word.

Smith paces the Maverick's offense with 11 RBI so far this season – second-best of the squad.

Freshman Adams tabbed her seventh complete game on the season as she moves onto a 6-7 record in the circle. Against the Cowgirls, the right-hander faced 28 batters while striking out two.

PLAY BY PLAY: No. 11 Oklahoma State (W, 3-1)
  • After a scoreless first, senior Rios led the bottom of the second off with a walk before Smith launched a two-run bomb that put UTA up 2-0.
  • The Cowgirls answered back with a solo bomb to cut the deficit down by 1.
  • Murphy got things going for the Mavs in the bottom of the fourth as the graduate student knocked a single up the middle. A Cowgirl error allowed for Smith to reach first that plated Murphy across that extended UTA's lead 3-1.
  • Freshman Adams kept the Cowgirls off the board for the remainder of the game as she allowed just two more hits following a home run back in the third inning.
  • UTA secured the 3-1 win over Oklahoma State as Adams moved onto a 6-7 on the season.
