MOBILE, Ala. – The UT Arlington baseball team fell in the series finale against South Alabama on Sunday afternoon, losing 11-4 to the Jaguars to move to 6-13 overall and 0-3 in the Sun Belt Conference.
David Moffat (L, 0-4) started for the Mavs and tossed the first 4.0 innings. He gave up five runs, with just one earned, off nine hits.
Tanner King (3.0 IP), Conner Peters (0.2 IP), and
Ryan Thomas (0.1 IP) pitched the final innings of relief, allowing a combined six runs off four hits.
UTA finished with seen hits, led by
Wilson Galvan's 2-for-5 day at the plate which included his first career home run. Galvan also led the Mavericks with two RBI on the day.
Oscar Ponce and
Zach Henry added one RBI each.
The Jags scored in the first inning for a third straight game, using a two-out double and single to plate one run.
South Alabama continued scoring in the second inning. An error and two singles loaded the bases before a fourth single scored two runs. A ground out to first bases pushed the third run of the inning past home plate for the Jags.
The Jaguars returned in the third, using two hits and another Maverick error to plate their fifth run of the game.
UTA got two runs back in the fourth inning with the first four batters reaching base.
Wilson Galvan knocked in the first run with a fielder's choice to second base before
Oscar Ponce hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
Two innings later
Zach Henry pushed a single through the right side of the infield to cut into the Jaguar deficit and score one more run.
South Alabama used a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead back to four runs.
Wilson Galvan led off the eighth inning with a leadoff home run, the first of his career.
The Jaguars responded in the bottom frame with two singles to left field to score three runs. A wild pitch with a runner on third base plated a fourth run.
