ARLINGTON, Texas – The Mavericks are on a five-game winning streak as UTA picked up its first conference series sweep over Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon in a 5-2 defeat.
The Mavericks sit on records of .500 across the board as the team is now 11-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play. UTA took all three games of the series from the Chanticleers after the Mavericks dropped all three games last season in Conway, S.C.
Freshman
Kaylee Cavazos paced UTA's offense over the series as she went 4-7 (.571) at the plate with 4 RBI and 2 home runs. Following closely fellow freshman
Aaliyah White as she finished 3-7 (.429) on the weekend. Third baseman
KJ Murphy came away with 3 RBI against the Chants with 1 home run.
Senior
Meagan Smith had an outstanding performance at the plate over the course of the week as she batted .500 with 1 double, 2 home runs, 9 RBI and a .938 slugging percentage. In the Coastal Carolina series alone, Smith knocked a double and 4 RBI.

Smith finished with 2 RBI on the day going 1-4 at the plate joined by
Morgan Rios and
KJ Murphy with 1 RBI apiece.
Right-hander
Jessica Adams had yet another solid performance in the circle for the Mavericks as the ace recorded her eighth complete game this season. Adams struck out four Chanticleers and allowed just two runs. Across a total of 28 batters faced, the freshman did not walk a single batter.
Adams improved her record to 7-7 after UTA's 5-2 victory over Coastal Carolina.
PLAY BY PLAY: Coastal Carolina (W, 5-2)
- Coastal Carolina grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Riley Zana knocked an RBI-single to center that scored Mikaya Thomas from third.
- A UTA allowed for the Chants to plate one more in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Mavs made the fifth inning exciting as the squad piled on 5 runs off a walk and two RBI-singles from Smith and Rios that put UTA up 5-2.
- UTA's Adams kept the Chanticleers off the board for the remainder of the game as the freshman picked up her seventh win of the season.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will head down south to Natchitoches, Louisiana for a midweek game against Northwestern State on Wednesday, Mar. 23 before facing Louisiana for the three-game Sun Belt series in Lafayette beginning Friday, Mar. 25 at 6 p.m.
