Men's Tennis Looks to Right Ship Against Corpus, Wichita State

ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington men's tennis team will look to get back on track this weekend after falling to UTSA 6-1 on Wednesday. The Mavericks will host Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Friday at 12 pm before taking on Wichita State on Sunday for a noon match at the UTA Tennis Center.

Two newcomers are helping lead the Mavericks (7-4) this spring. Maks Lukman is 9-2 in dual singles matches, while Habib Stambouli is 7-2 in dual matches.  Matching Stambouli is Daichi Akiyoshi who holds a 7-2 record this spring.  Including tournament action, Miguel Cabrera and Alan Sau Franco leads the Mavericks with 12 total wins.

UTA is looking to find the right combination at doubles,as they hold a .542 winning percentage in dual matches.  Stambouli and Ricardo Alban have the best record, going 3-1 while playing on courts two and three. Maks Lukman and Alan Sau Franco are currently 3-3 when playing on courts one and two.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI
The Mavericks lost to the Islanders earlier this season 6-1 in Corpus Christi. Miguel Cabrera was the lone Maverick to pick up a win in that match. The Islanders hold a 15-5 all-time record against UTA and have won three of the last five.  The Mavericks swept Corpus in Arlington in 2020 - the last time the two squads faced off at the UTA Tennis Center.

SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
The Shockers are 6-5 on the season and will take on Omaha and Texas Tech prior to take on the Mavericks this Sunday. Luka Mrsic (9-2) and Kristof Minarik (8-2) have played well this spring, leading the Shockers in wins in dual singles matches.  Not far off is Nicolas Acevedo (7-3) wh ohas been the primary No.1 and No. 2 singles player for Wichita State. In doubles action, Kristof Minarik and Alex Richards have been dominate on every court, going a combined 7-1 across all three courts.
