ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington men's tennis team beat Texas A&M Corpus Christi 4-2 on Friday after having lost to the Islanders 1-6 last month.
Maks Lukman and
Alan Sau Franco won the first doubles match on Court 1, 6-3.
Habib Stambouli and
Ricardo Alban dropped the next match 2-6 on Court 3, but
Miguel Cabrera and
Anton Shepp pulled through and clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win on Court 2.
The Mavericks started off the singles with two losses on Courts 3 and 6.
Miguel Cabrera lost 1-6, 2-6 at the No. 3 spot, followed by
Habib Stambouli with a 3-6, 0-6 loss at No. 6.
Alan Sau Franco was the first to earn a singles point, with a 7-5, 6-3 win on Court 2.
Maks Lukman came back on Court 5 to earn the second, winning 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.
With the Mavericks leading 3-2, it came down to
Anton Shepp or
Daichi Akiyoshi to clinch the match. Shepp secured the victory for the Mavericks on Court 1 with a tough 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win.
ON DECK
The Mavs will take on Wichita State on Sunday at noon at the UTA Tennis Center.
