ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington men's tennis team suffered their fifth loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, losing 4-1 to Wichita State at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks are now 8-5 on the season.
Doubles play started off well, with
Daichi Akiyoshi and
Ricardo Alban taking line three quickly over the Shockers 6-2. Wichita State battled back to even the doubles point with a 6-4 win over
Alan Sau Franco and
Maks Lukman on court two. The Shockers clinched the doubles point on court one with a hard-fought 7-6 (3) battle over
Anton Shepp and
Miguel Cabrera.
Singles started in the same fashion as doubles, with the Mavericks winning the first match. Sau Franco evened the match at one with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luka Mrsic. That would be the last point for the Mavericks as the Shockers won the next three matches to clinch the match.
Shepp fell on line one 6-1, 6-4 as the Shockers retook the lead.Â
Maks Lukman was the next to fall on cour five, 6-4, 6-1 before
Miguel Cabrera lost on court four and the Shockers claimed the victory over the Mavericks.
UP NEXT
The Mavericks will travel to College Station on Wednesday, March 9 to take on Texas A&M for a noon match.
