ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team defeated University of Houston 4-3 on Saturday to get back into the win column, improving their record to 10-1.
The Mavericks started off strong by sweeping the doubles point.
Liz Chileno and
Ana Paula Jimenez were the first to finish on Court 2, winning handedly 6-1.
Momoka Horiguchi and
Tara Gorinsek clinched he doubles point with a 6-3 win on Court 1.
The momentum continued over into singles play.
Sarina Reinertsen won the first singles match 6-0, 6-1 on Court 6 before
Tara Gorinsek followed, winning 6-2, 6-0 on Court 4.
The Cougars fouht back, taking the next two matches over the Mavericks.
Carla Pons and
Momoka Horiguchi dropped the next two matches, 5-7, 6-1 on Court 3 and 2-6, 3-6 on Court 1.
Ana Paula Jimenez clinched the match for the Mavericks on Court 5, winning 6-4, 6-2.
Liz Chileno fought hard and came back after losing the first set on Court 2, but ultimately lost 4-6, 6-3, and 8-10 in the tiebreaker.
UP NEXT
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow at the UTA Tennis Center against Wichita State at 2 pm.
