COLLEGE STATION – The UT Arlington men's tennis team was swept by Texas A&M in College Station on Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Aggies. UTA moves to 8-6 with the loss.
The Aggies jumped out to an early lead against the Mavericks, using the doubles point to gain a 1-0 advantage. Noah Schachter and Kenner Taylor took down
Miguel Cabrera and
Anton Shepp 6-1 on court one before
Daichi Akiyoshi and
Ricardo Alban fell to Austin Abbrat and Stefan Storch 6-1 on court three.
Alan Sau Franco and
Maks Lukman were leading 5-3 when their match was called.
UTA would not fair any better in singles matches, quickly falling being 2-0 with Shepp falling to Matthis Ross, straight sets 6-0, 6-0 on court two.
Daichi Akiyoshi (L, 6-3, 6-4) and
Ricardo Alban (L, 6-1, 7-5) followed on courts three and six respectively as the Aggies clinched the match. The two teams played the remaining matches out with
Maks Lukman (L, 6-4, 6-3) and
Miguel Cabrera (L, 6-2, 6-4) both falling in straight sets on courts five and four.
Alan Sau Franco was the lone Maverick to go three sets, doing so on court one. After dropping set one 6-1, he bounced back for a 6-4 win in set two. Unfortunately, he couldn't come away with the third set victory, falling 6-3 as the Aggies completed the sweep.
UTA will return to Arlington where they will take on Boston College tomorrow (March 10) at noon at the UTA Tennis Center.
