LAFAYETTE, La. – The UT Arlington women's tennis team won its program record 20
th regular season match of the season with a 4-0 sweep over Louisiana on Sunday morning. The Mavericks are now 20-2 overall and sit in second place at 8-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
It was a battle for the doubles point to begin the match, needing all three matches to determine the winner. The Ragin' Cajuns took down
Momoka Horiguchi and
Tara Gorinsek 6-2 on court one to take an early lead, but the Mavericks evened the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court two from
Liz Chileno and
Ana Paula Jimenez.
With both teams cheering on their respective sides, court three came down to the tiebreaker set with
Sarina Reinertsen and
Carla Pons edging out Louisiana 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the doubles point for the Mavericks.
UTA continued its momentum into singles play, quickly capturing the three remaining points to claim the match.
Ana Paula Jimenez was the first to finish, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win on court six.
Sarina Reinertsen stayed undefeated on the season, claiming a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five before
Liz Chileno clinched the match on court one with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
The Mavericks will wrap up its regular season next Friday (April 15) in Jonesboro, Arkansas against Arkansas State.
